Department of Veterans' Affairs

August 2001

The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) is pleased to provide you with a new edition of the Notes for LMOs to assist you in providing treatment to eligible veterans under the Repatriation Commission arrangements.

Local Medical Officers (LMOs) play a key role in providing treatment for veterans, their widow/widowers and dependants.

With the ageing of many veterans, the role of LMOs is increasingly important, particularly in an environment of rapid advances in medicine and the availability of greater treatment options under progressive enhancements to the range of Repatriation health services.

The Repatriation Commission and its administrative arm, DVA, look forward to continuing to work closely with LMOs in the support of veterans.

DVA very much appreciates the special role played by LMOs in coordinating high quality health care for Australia's veterans. Should LMOs have any suggestions or queries regarding the Repatriation Comprehensive Care Scheme or the arrangements, they should contact DVA's State Offices. The addresses and telephone numbers are listed in the appendices.

Thank you for your continued care of veterans, war widow(er)s and their dependants.
