18 May - Improved services for veterans in Newcastle region

More than 2,500 veterans and war widows in the Newcastle region will be able to access services at the newly refurbished Veterans’ Access Network (VAN) and Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) offices opened today by Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Ian Campbell.

15 May - Remembering Australia's servicemen and women

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, has announced funding for 88 projects that commemorate Australia’s wartime history.

   12 May – Increased support for Bomber Command veterans

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Warren Snowdon today announced additional support to help more veterans get to London for the dedication of the Bomber Command Memorial on 28 June.

11 May – Veteran service goes online

A new website, offering veterans a more immediate way of conducting business with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs was launched by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon.

8 May – Securing support for our veterans

The Australian Government has handed down $12.3 billion in overall funding for Australia’s veteran community in the 2012-13 Federal Budget. This includes $6.8 billion for income support and compensation; $5.5 billion for health measures and $65 million for commemorative activities – providing support for 350,000 veterans and their families.

7 May – Study assistance for sons and daughters of Vietnam veterans

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Warren Snowdon announced that 50 students across Australia will receive up to $9,000 each over three years to help meet the costs of their post secondary education.

4 May – 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today encouraged all Australians to remember the Battle of the Coral Sea, one of the defining naval battles of the Second World War, and one which has been regarded by many as ‘the battle that saved Australia’.

1 May – Grants for Australian Bomber Command veterans

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, encouraged Australian Bomber Command veterans to register with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Association for a $3,000 grant to attend the Bomber Command Memorial dedication in London on 28 June 2012.
