    The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, said the Gillard Labor Government is providing a tailored package of household assistance payments for the veteran and ex-service community to deal with the impact of a carbon price.

  • 26  July - Gallipoli service provider reappointed
    Following a competitive tender process, Melbourne-based company Definitive Events will continue to partner with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to support Anzac Day commemorations at Gallipoli, Turkey, in 2012.
     
    The role of the service provider is to manage the operations and logistics of three commemorative services at Gallipoli on 25 April including the Dawn Service, the Australian service at Lone Pine and New Zealand service at Chunuk Bair.
     
    It is a significant logistical operation to transform the Anzac Commemorative Site, the Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair sites each year with all seating, lighting, staging, sound, waste management and first aid brought in and assembled on-site.  The sites are then cleared soon after the completion of the services.
     
    Over the past five years, Definitive Events has worked closely with the Australian and New Zealand Governments as well as local Turkish authorities to ensure successful Anzac Day commemorations at Gallipoli.

  • 24 July – Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels honoured in PNG 

    The Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels contribution to supporting Australians in Papua New Guinea during the Second World War, has been honoured today at a ceremony in Port Moresby. The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, was represented at the ceremony, held at the Bomana War Cemetery, by Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator the Hon David Feeney, who presented commemorative medallions to 13 recipients.

  • 22 July – The Battle of Pozieres remembered 95 years on

    The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, encouraged Australians to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the battle of Pozières, in which Australians fought to capture the village of Pozières in one of our most costly battles on the Western Front in Europe.

  • 18 July - Snowdon and Houston commemorate fallen on Western Front
    The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, joined the newly appointed Chair of the Anzac Centenary Advisory Board, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, AC, AFC (Ret’d) in honouring Australian service on the Western Front with a special visit to Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.

        • 6 July - ACM Houston to lead new Anzac Centenary Board
          The Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Centenary of Anzac, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP, today announced Air Chief Marshal Houston, AC, AFC (Ret’d), had been appointed as the Chair of the new Anzac Centenary Advisory Board.
