Eligible persons (including veterans, serving and former defence force members, war widows and widowers, certain Australian Federal Police personnel with overseas service) and their dependants have access to appropriate income support and compensation in recognition of the effects of their service.
Outputs
- Service and age pensions, income support supplement and allowances.
- Veteran disability and war widow’s/widower’s pensions, allowances and special purpose assistance.
- Incapacity payments, non-economic loss lump sums for injuries resulting in permanent impairment and payments to dependants of deceased members.
- Merit reviews.
- Defence Service Home Loans Scheme assistance.
Strategic Priorities
- Increase awareness and understanding of compensation and income support schemes among veterans, serving and former members, their families and their advocates.
- Implement the extension of compensation entitlements to eligible AFP personnel and their dependants.
- Assist members and their dependants to receive their correct entitlements through effective advice and efficient claims processing and review.
- Integrate rehabilitation as a key consideration in compensation policy and decision-making.
- Engage younger veterans and ADF members in policy development and review.
- Ensure that the changing needs of members, especially those with severe disabilities, are addressed.
- Secure continuing access to home loan and insurance services for eligible members of the veteran and defence force communities.

Outcome 2
Eligible persons (including veterans, serving and former defence force members, war widows and widowers, certain Australian Federal Police personnel with overseas service) and their dependants have access to health and other care services that promote and maintain self-sufficiency, wellbeing and quality of life.

- Arrangements for delivery of health, rehabilitation and other care services.

Strategic Priorities
- Ensure continued access to high quality health care and rehabilitation services, in partnership with public and private providers.
- Implement the extension of health services entitlements to eligible AFP personnel and their dependants.
- Develop an integrated approach to support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the veteran, defence force and AFP communities.
- Promote rehabilitation as a health priority for veterans, former members and AFP personnel.
- Maintain and develop services targeted to the needs of an ageing veteran population.
- Continue research to support the health and wellbeing of members and their families.

Outcome 3
The service and sacrifice of the men and women who served Australia and its allies in wars, conflicts and peace operations are acknowledged and commemorated.
Outputs
- Development and implementation of commemorative initiatives and funding support under the Saluting Their Service program.
- Establishment and maintenance of war cemeteries, post-war commemorations and national memorials overseas.
- Coordination and management of commemorative activities at Gallipoli.
Strategic Priorities
- Promote community involvement in commemorations programs, in conjunction with other government agencies and ex-service and community organisations.
- Support community awareness and preservation of Australia’s wartime and service heritage and veterans’ experiences.
- Commemorate eligible war dead and deceased veterans by maintaining individual graves, war cemeteries and Gardens of Remembrance.
- Maintain existing government memorials overseas and construct new memorials as determined by government processes.
- Manage the annual Anzac Day services at Gallipoli in the lead-up to the centenary of the landing.

The veteran, defence force and certain Australian Federal Police communities have access to advice and information about benefits, entitlements and services.

- Communication, community support and development services to the veteran, defence force and AFP communities.

- Enhance the range of options for the communities and providers that do business with DVA.
- Maintain and build the effective delivery of services to the veteran, defence force and AFP communities in regional Australia.
- Use cost-effective technologies to support and enhance services to the veteran, defence force and AFP communities.
- Integrate and modernise DVA’s systems and processes to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Promote best practice in records management to support effective service delivery and decision-making.

Outcome 5
Serving and former defence force members and dependants have access to support services provided through joint arrangements between DVA and Defence.
Outputs
- Joint Defence/DVA projects.
Strategic Priorities
- Continue to identify and strengthen links between DVA and the Department of Defence.
- Maintain and build support services for ADF members in the transition to civilian life.
- Collaborate with Defence to identify and monitor potential health hazards to serving ADF members.
- Develop a joint OH&S and health promotion program.
- Enhance services to serving and former members through DVA access to Defence electronic personnel and health records.
- Support the effective operation of the Centre for Military and Veterans’ Health, the Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health and associated institutions.
