New funding of $11.6 million over four years to construct a new building for staff and collections now housed in the main building.

Why re-develop these galleries? |

The AWM building was not designed to carry exhibitions of post-1945 conflicts.

This funding will significantly expand the space available for the Vietnam, Korean and Peacekeeping exhibitions and for commemoration of more recent operations in East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq.

When will the redevelopment be completed? |

It is expected the new building will be completed by late 2005 and the new galleries opened in 2007.

The Australian War Memorial will provide $12 million from within existing resources to fund the re-development of the exhibits.
