REMEMBRANCE DAY 2002

Sydney War Cemetery, New South Wales

A Remembrance Day service was held in the Sydney War Cemetery on Sunday 10 November 2002.

This ceremony is held annually on the Sunday before 11 November and is organised by the Western Metropolitan Districts RSL Sub-Branches.

There were approximately 160 people in attendance, which is slightly lower than in previous years. There had been an extremely hot spell of weather in the days prior to the Service, which possibly affected visitor numbers. Given the ageing of the veteran community expectations are that there may be a decline in the numbers attending over the next few years.

German Remembrance Service, Tatura

The annual ‘Hour of Remembrance’ was held at the Tatura German War Cemetery in ideal weather conditions. Approximately 250 people attended the ceremony.

In the weeks leading up to the service staff carried out minor repairs to the slate paving and refurbished the bronze plaque bases. The commemorative plaque was also refurbished. A large gum tree branch, which fell a few days before the event and which narrowly missed the front fence, was disposed of by staff.

Just a short note to say thank you for the memorial you have placed on my husband’s grave.
I am very grateful and happy with it, which my husband would have been if only he could see it. I’m sure I am a bit silly telling you this, but I have been out and told him about it. No am not silly yet, only so grateful for all the Veterans’ Affairs have done for me, also for what you also have done for his father in the old cemetery.
