Veteran & Community Grants aim to maintain and improve the independence and quality of life of members of the veteran community by providing financial support for activities, services and programs that enhance well being.
Through these grants, the Department of Veterans' Affairs offers opportunities for the veteran and broader community to participate in, and benefit from, projects that:
promote and enhance healthy lifestyles
support quality independent living at home
encourage involvement in community activities to reduce social isolation
increase access to community services
address gaps in local services, and
support carers.
Grant funding is available to all ex-service and community organisations that can demonstrate a contribution to the welfare of members of the veteran community.
Many projects adopt a particularly creative approach to caring for our veterans and develop local solutions to address veteran needs and wider community issues.
Examples of projects funded include:
a volunteer lawn mowing service by veterans for veterans
exercise and tai chi classes
a guide for home care workers
purchase of equipment for social and sporting activities for a drop-in centre
carers workshops, and
a range of specific health education programs.
This booklet showcases some of the successful projects from across Australia. It provides recognition for the work being done in the community to support veterans and war widows.
It may provide inspiration for a project in your community - and applying for a grant has been made as easy as possible.
