I am pleased to introduce this booklet showcasing innovative Veteran and Community Grants.
Through
Veteran & Community Grants, the Government provides funding for a diverse
range of projects aimed at supporting a healthy, quality lifestyle for our
veterans and war widows.
Veteran & Community Grants provide the opportunity for veterans and war widows to take ownership of community activities and programs that help overcome social isolation and promote general health and well-being.
These grants encourage creative ideas for projects that foster greater involvement in local community activity. Projects funded are living proof of the benefits to be gained by the veteran community, the wider community and the Department of Veterans' Affairs working closely together.
The Federal Government is strongly committed to meeting the health care needs of veterans and war widows, and Veteran & Community Grants are an important plank in its overall strategy. It gives me great pleasure to see the result of this seeding funding at the grass roots level as I move about the community. Examples of some of those innovative projects are highlighted in this booklet.
I congratulate the individuals, groups and community organisations working to improve the quality of life for our veterans.
They deserve nothing less for their service to Australia.
