Our Business Priorities for 2001/2001

Our major business priorities for 2001/2002 for each outcome are:

Outcome 1.

  • improving the quality of decision-making based on best possible evidence obtained at the earliest opportunity
  • increasing support for ex-service organisation advocates
  • maintaining the quality of departmental participation in external review processes
  • refining and simplifying business processes
  • strengthening our information technology and support systems
  • working co-operatively with the Department of Defence
  • continuing to improve the quality of our written advice to veterans

Outcome 2.

  • an holistic approach to veterans' care
  • strengthening our relationships with providers and simplifying arrangements for service provision
  • better coordination of care
  • monitoring and managing Veterans' Home Care services
  • improving resource management and planning
  • monitoring and researching the health of veterans and ADF members after deployment
  • promoting partnerships in the delivery of veteran and ADF Non-operational health services
  • improving planning, resource management and systems of fraud detection

Outcome 3.

  • promoting awareness and understanding of commemorative programmes and Office of the Australian War Grave services
  • supporting commemorative activities and projects with a Centenary of Federation focus through the Their Service – Our Heritage grants programmes
  • building on the interest that has been generated through the Australians at War documentary
  • implementing a range of education initiatives including school kits and interactive tools
  • providing various forms of official commemoration for eligible deceased service personnel
  • strengthening our relationships with public information providers
  • increasing support for community initiated projects and developing closer links with regional communities
  • constructing and maintaining national memorials overseas
  • developing internet and information products to promote our overseas cemeteries and memorials
  • promoting the community use of nominal rolls of all who served since Federation
  • extending the Memories and Memorabilia programme in partnership with collecting institutions

Outcome 4.

  • evaluating and managing the network of Departmental and agency services to meet demand in regional areas
  • implementing service improvements identified through targeted surveys and statistical data modelling
  • improving telephone services
  • expanding and improving DVA products available on the internet
  • improving DVA's capacity for e-business
  • influencing other community services to ensure that veteran and Defence Force interests are considered
  • increasing the awareness of DVA benefits and services among the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Outcome 5.

  • facilitating the integration of the Transition Management Service into DVA
  • continuously improving the delivery of the Military Compensation Scheme to achieve efficiencies and improvements in services
  • facilitating relationships with the Department of Defence while positioning DVA to take advantage of opportunities flowing from the LINKS Project
  • continuing the development and release of Defcare system enhancements
  • developing DVA's role in the management of ex-service records
