Our Desired Outcomes

Outcome 1.
Eligible veterans, their war widow(er)s, widow(er)s and dependants have access to appropriate compensation and income support in recognition of the effects of war service.

To be achieved by:

Providing compensation and income support through

  • Disability and War Widow(er)s and Widow(er)s Pensions and other allowances
  • Service Pension, Age Pension and Income Support Supplement
  • Veterans' Children Education Scheme
  • Defence Service Homes subsidised loans and insurance

Outcome 2.
Eligible veterans, their war widow(er)s, and dependants have access to health and other care services that promote and maintain self-sufficiency, well-being and quality of life.

To be achieved by:

  • Planning
  • Purchasing and arranging
  • Monitoring and evaluating

the provision of quality and cost effective health care, home care, counselling, housing and community support services.

Outcome 3.
The service and sacrifice of men and women who served Australia and its allies in war, defence and peacekeeping services are acknowledged and commemorated.

To be achieved by:

Administering the

  • Their Service – Our Heritage commemorative programme
  • Office of Australian War Graves programmes
  • Other Commemorative programmes

Outcome 4.
The needs of the veteran community are identified, they are informed about available community and specific services and they are able to access such services.

To be achieved by:

Providing access to services and information through

  • State Offices
  • Veterans' Affairs Network Offices and agency arrangements
  • Ex-service organisation networks
  • Communication strategies including telephone management, single point of contact for veterans, use of the general media, publications, the web site and other communication methods

Outcome 5.
Current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) who suffer an injury or disease which is causally related to employment in the ADF are provided with compensation and rehabilitation benefits and services.

To be achieved by:

  • Providing incapacity payments, lump sum payments for permanent impairment and reimbursement of the costs of medical treatment or other specified costs
  • Providing death benefits to dependents of deceased employees
  • Providing an effective vocational rehabilitation service
  • Maintaining an impartial, timely, responsive, efficient and effective administration aligned with workers' compensation jurisdictional practice
  • Delivering advisory and information services
