Participants

The Vietnam Veterans’ Family Study will involve up to 200,000 participants, including Vietnam veterans, their families and comparison groups:

Group 1. Vietnam veterans and their families including partners/ex-partners, children and step-children;

Group 2. People who served in the military in the Vietnam War era but did not serve in Vietnam and their families including partners/ex-partners, children and step-children;

Group 3. The siblings of Vietnam veterans and their families, including partners/ex-partners, children and step-children;

The registration process will determine if you are eligible for the study. Participants must be aged 18 years or over.

The researchers must follow certain protocols for the study to be valid. The research protocol for the major survey component involves using the nominal roll of Vietnam veterans to get a random sample of Vietnam veterans. For scientific reasons, participants for the survey will be randomly selected from Army personnel only. Those selected will be invited to participate in the study, and will be asked to invite their families to register their interest in participating.

Veterans who served in the Navy and Royal Australian Air Force can register to participate in the study. However, these results must be considered separately from the randomly selected group.
