Effective 1 November 2008

DVA is simplifying the requirements for the claiming of a number of items relating to dental services, specifically:

D716, S716 and T716 “metal palate or plate”; and
D769, S769 and T769 “repair or addition to metal casting”.

Dental providers will not be required to submit a copy of the lab’s invoice, indicating the cost of the item supplied, when lodging a claim for payment for these items. However, DVA expects that appropriate record is maintained on the DVA patient’s file to facilitate any required or possible audit of payments to the dental provider.

Prior Approval Prior approval for LDOs Prior approval for Dental Specialist Services	Prior approval is not required for initial dental specialist consultations (excluding orthodontic and prosthodontic specialists) and some other specialist services where noted in the fees schedule. The referring LDO should ensure that the dental specialist will accept DVA treatment arrangements and specialist's fees.

Annual Monetary Limit	An annual monetary limit applies to most DVA beneficiaries for all items listed as Schedule C items. The annual monetary limit for 2008 is $2210. The annual monetary limit for 2009 is $2259.
