A Study of the Health of Australian Vietnam Veterans

The enclosed questionnaire is the first phase of a study into the health problems of Vietnam veterans and the effect that these may be having on their families. It will ensure that we are able to develop policies for veterans to meet their health needs. Details of the study, its purpose and how to get more information are included in the cover sheet.

The study is being conducted by an independent consultant, AGB McNair Pty Ltd. The questionnaire, which is being posted to all living Vietnam veterans, has been compiled with the assistance of the Australian Veterans and Defence Services Council (AVADSC), the Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia (VVAA) and the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL). It is fully endorsed by these organisations and supported by other organisations with a direct involvement with Vietnam veterans.

AGB McNair will not pass to the Department of Veterans' Affairs any personal details which identify you in any way. Your answers will be completely confidential. At the end of the study all source data will be transferred to the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare for safe custody and, in turn, for more detailed analysis of veterans' health status.

You are asked to answer the questionnaire and return it in the enclosed reply paid envelope as soon as possible but no later than 30 May 1997. Please give this your urgent attention.

Yours sincerely,
