Matters discussed

Terms of Reference

The forum members agreed to retain the nationally prepared tem1s of reference and also agreed to having their names published on the DVA websrte. The members agreed to make the issue of younger veterans a standing agenda item.

Services Division report

The forum noted the good outcome of small numbers of complaints about public and private hospital services. They noted the policies in relation to robotic assisted
prostatectomy, cataract surgery and extension of existing public hospital arrangements. There was a short discussion around the introduction of the Individual Health Identifier. A number of research initiatives were also explained.

Support Division report

Discussions focussed on the MRCA review and ESOs questioned Why they had not received a specific invitation to participate. The National Manager of Rehabilitation and Compensation Group, Sandy Bell, explained that it was a public process. Members are advised of the cessation of the TMS program and participants expressed their concern about the end of the program with a strong feeling that Defence has little understanding
of the services provided by ESOs and DVA

The Rehabilitation and Compensation Group National Manager, Sandy Bell, gave an
introduction to the case coordination process and single claim form. The presentation
from one of the VIC/TAS case Managers, Sundra Pichot, was well regarded.

Review of DVA-funded ESO Advocacy and Welfare Services.

David Batchelor gave a progress report and discussed the emerging themes.

Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council (TVAC)

Tony Scott gave a presentation on the creation and role of the TVAC and discussed the
work underway in a number of areas including transport, education and concessions. It
was agreed that Bill Kaine, who is also on the TVAC, would periodically brief the forum
on the Council's progress.

Issues for Younger Veterans

Rodney Teague addressed the issue of younger veterans in residential aged care, and
particular reference was made to the lack of residential facilities for younger people.
Following much discussion it was agreed to conduct a workshop at the September
meeting to map the services available to younger veterans in Tasmania and to report to
the ESO Round table on identified gaps.
