The SGB is the National body responsible for providing strategic direction, oversight and review of the quality and consistency of advocacy training. The SGB members were appointed by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs following nominations by the Ex service Organisation Round Table.
The SGB consists of the following members:
Ms Jenny Walker, SGB Chair
Jenny Walker is the Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Australia. She has tertiary qualifications in Business (Marketing, HR and Government), Market Research and in land and engineering survey drafting and cartography. Jenny’s professional memberships include Associate Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute, Member of the Australian Institute of Management, Member of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, Graduate Australian Institute of Company Directors. Jenny served for 16 years in the Australian Intelligence Corps retiring at the rank of Major.
Mr John Hodges, SGB Member
John is a 21 year Royal Australian Navy Veteran and a former Submarine Commanding Officer. A practising Level III Advocate and a former TIP Trainer, he is currently the RSL’s National Veterans’ Affairs Advisor. He was a member of the Working Party that established the ATDP.
Mr Ken Foster, SGB Member
Ken is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Australian Veterans” Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT) and is the National President of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia. Ken served 21 years in the Royal Australian Force and retired at the rank of Warrant Officer Class One. Ken has been involved in the ex-service community since the late 1980’s and is currently active in all levels of veteran’s welfare and advocacy.
Mr Richard Kelloway, SGB Member
Richard was a three year chair of the TIP NSW-ACT and is an appointed member of the SGB board. Richard’s 26-year career in the Royal Australian Air Force included operational service in Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller and many postings to training and professional development appointments. His strategic focus is ensuring ATDP integrates the training and development preferences of younger veterans.
Mr Paul Way, SGB Member (Defence)
Paul is the Director General of the Defence Community Organisation. Paul joined the Royal Air Force in 1981 and, following a three year exchange tour in Australia (1992 – 1994), in 1997 he transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force. Paul completed his Air Force career in 2002 with his final tour as Commanding Officer of Officers’ Training School (Point Cook).
Ms Lisa Foreman, SGB Member (DVA)
Lisa is the First Assistant Secretary, Rehabilitation and Support Division in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Lisa oversees the policy and program work associated with the provision of rehabilitation, compensation and income support to veterans.
Mr Bill Kearney, Chair CFMG
Bill was awarded a Medal of Order of Australia for Service to the Veterans' Community. Bill served in the Royal Australian Armoured Corps for 14 years and has been actively involved in Veterans issues and Advocacy since 1990. Bill attended his first tip course in 1995. In 2002 he completed the Tribunal Advocacy Course and is a practicing level 4 advocate.
Mr Greg Hoving, National Training Manager
Greg was the TIP National training manager. Greg served 12 years in Royal Australian Navy and first became involved in training at the HMAS Nirimba in 1972. Greg has since been teaching with NSW TAFE for 19 years and holds a Diploma of Teaching, Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education Administration. Greg plays a vital role in the development of the ATDP course structure and learning outcomes.
