Strategic Governance Board (SGB)

The SGB is the national body responsible for providing strategic direction, oversight and review of the quality and consistency of advocacy training. The SGB members were appointed by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs following nominations by the Ex-service Organisation Round Table.

The members of the SGB:

Ms Jenny Walker, SGB Chair Jenny Walker

Jenny Walker is the former Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Australia. She has tertiary qualifications in Business (Marketing, HR and Government), Market Research and in land and engineering survey drafting and cartography. Jenny’s professional memberships include Associate Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute, Member of the Australian Institute of Management, Member of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, Graduate Australian Institute of Company Directors. Jenny served for 16 years in the Australian Intelligence Corps retiring at the rank of Major.

Mr Ken Foster, SGB MemberKen Foster

Ken is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT) and is the National President of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia.  Ken served 21 years in the Royal Australian Force and retired at the rank of Warrant Officer Class One. Ken has been involved in the ex-service community since the late 1980’s and is currently active in all levels of veteran’s welfare and advocacy.

Mr Michael von Berg MC, OAM

Mike is President of the South Australia Branch of the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) Association, and Chairman and National President of the RAR Corporation. He is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Veteran Mental Health, DVA’s Ex-Service Organisation Round Table and the Veterans Advisory Council of SA. Mike enlisted in the Australian Army in 1962 and was commissioned in 1965. In 1966-67 he served with the newly raised 5RAR (The Tiger Battalion) in Vietnam, and established the first Reconnaissance Platoon in an Australian infantry battalion during which time he was awarded the Military Cross. He went on to serve in the Special Air Service Regiment, Commandos, and Staff and Regimental postings until resigning his commission in 1973. In 1991 Mike established his own management consultancy, specialising in agribusiness and international trade, which he ran until his retirement. Over this period he was a non-executive director of public and private companies including Rugby Australia.

Mr Paul Way, SGB Member (Defence)Paul Way

 

Paul is the Director General of the Defence Community Organisation. Paul joined the Royal Air Force in 1981 and, following a three year exchange tour in Australia (1992 – 1994), in 1997 he transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force.  Paul completed his Air Force career in 2002 with his final tour as Commanding Officer of the Officers’ Training School (Point Cook).

Ms Lisa Foreman, SGB Member (DVA)Lisa Foreman

Lisa is the First Assistant Secretary, Rehabilitation and Support Division in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.  Lisa oversees the policy and program work associated with the provision of rehabilitation, compensation and income support to veterans.

Mr Roger Greene, Acting Chair, Capability Framework Management Group

Roger graduated from Royal Military College Duntroon in 1965 into the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. He served in the Regular Army and Reserve until December 1993, including service in Vietnam and New Guinea. Roger is trained in both compensation and welfare advocacy and has appeared before both the Veterans’ Review Board and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Roger has been a member of Melbourne Legacy for over 30 years.

 

Mr Greg Hoving, National Training Manager

Greg was the TIP National training manager. Greg served 12 years in Royal Australian Navy and first became involved in training at the HMAS Nirimba in 1972. Greg has since been teaching with NSW TAFE for 19 years and holds a Diploma of Teaching, Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education Administration. Greg plays a vital role in the development of the ATDP course structure and learning outcomes.
