National Service Memorial Dedication: 8 September 2010
The National Service Memorial at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra was dedicated on Wednesday, 8 September, 2010.
Over 4000 people attended the memorial dedication which honoured all National Servicemen who died on active service and commemorates some 287,000 men called up in two schemes between 1951 and 1972 for service in the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force.
On a beautiful sunny Canberra day, National Servicemen marched on Anzac Parade in groups according to their year of call-up. People then gathered to watch the Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, dedicate the new memorial.
