October 1955
A battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) is sent to Malaya.
1956–present
Australian military observers are posted to United Nations Truce Supervision Operations (UNTSO) to assist in supervision of Israel and her neighbours.
August 1957
A second battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) arrives in Malaya.
1958
RAAF operations are established in Malaya.
1959
National service scheme, introduced in 1951, is suspended.
July 1960
End of Malayan Emergency.
