Death of Private Horace Madden, 3RAR, POW awarded the George Cross posthumously.

Death of John Treloar who, along with CEW Bean, did more than any other individual to establish and develop the Australian War Memorial. Treloar served as Director of the Memorial from 1920 to 1952.

Australia ratifies Peace Treaty with Japan; official ending of British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF), Japan.

Armistice signed at Panmunjom brings hostilities in Korea to an end.
