General Sir Thomas Blamey, Commander-in-Chief Allied Land Forces, South-West Pacific Area, World War II, is made a Field Marshal, the only Australian appointment to this rank.

25 June

North Korea invaded South Korea.

27 June

Australia commits military units to the United Nations Force in Korea.

29 June

RAAF bomber squadron is sent to Malaya to assist the British in counter insurgency work against communist guerrillas during the Malayan Emergency.
