Details: As has become traditional, the wreaths and flowers laid at the AISHK ceremony will be taken after the ceremony and re-laid at the main Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery at Sai Wan. This is not a public event but the public can visit any of the three War Cemeteries in Hong Kong during opening hours.

All registered attendees will need to assemble at the intercollege car park (near the Foxtrot gate entrance to the UN Headquarters) by no later than 4.30am, where they will be transported by bus to the cemetery. NO private vehicles allowed into the UNBZ.

The easiest way to access the Memorial is catch the subway, either line 4 or 6 and get-off at Samgakji Station and then leave through exit 12. There is a large forecourt at the Memorial as you enter through the North Gate and you should cross that forecourt to the steps leading up to the main entrance of the Memorial. The service will take place on the left hand side of the main entrance in front of the Australian list on the Wall of Remembrance.

THAILAND

Hellfire Pass

Anzac Day Dawn Service and gunfire breakfast

Venue: Konyu Cutting, below the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, Kanchanaburi Province
Details: Upon completion of the Dawn Service a gunfire breakfast will be held in the vicinity of the Hellfire Pass Museum car-park. Hellfire Pass is approximately 250 km from Bangkok and approximately 75 km north of Kanchanaburi Town. The trip from Kanchanaburi Town to Hellfire Pass takes approximately 45 minutes by road. The walk to the site takes approximately 20 minutes. (Please note the track is rocky and uneven in parts, via steps and along the old railway line – sensible footware is recommended and access is difficult for disabled persons) It is recommended that each visitor bring insect repellent and a small torch to the dawn service. Toilet facilities at both Kanchanaburi and Hellfire Pass are scarce, and rudimentary at best.
Please note that for security reasons, bags will NOT be permitted to be taken into Hellfire Pass. Mobile phones must also be switched off during the service.
For visitors from Australia, the RSL generally co-ordinates tours to Thailand for ANZAC Day activities. Your local branch should be able to assist you with travel and accommodation enquiries. Many travel agents also have such information. Regrettably, the Defence Section at the Australian Embassy in Thailand is unable to assist with personal travel arrangements.

Kanchanaburi Town

Short parade followed by Dawn Service and gunfire breakfast

Time: 11.00 am to 12 noon
Venue: Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetery, Kanchanaburi Town, 180km from Bangkok.
Details: A traditional memorial service and formal wreath laying ceremony. Drinking water will be available for attendees and limited refreshments are provided upon completion of the service. Mobile phones must also be switched off during the service. Extremely hot weather conditions prevail in April and an umbrella or sun protection and bottled drinking water is highly recommended for the Memorial Service.

Toilet facilities at both Kanchanaburi and Hellfire Pass are scarce, and rudimentary at best. For visitors from Australia, the RSL generally co-ordinates tours to Thailand for ANZAC Day activities.
