About Us

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) administers the Government’s commitment to caring for our veteran and defence service community – the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict.  We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration and Defence support services.

DVA is committed to excellence in service delivery, innovation and continuous improvement.  In order to achieve this, we provide quality experiences and training to our graduates.

With a budget of more than $11 billion per year, DVA is responsible for providing a wide range of services to the veteran community including:

  • Income support
  • Compensation
  • Rehabilitation
  • Health and related services
  • Commemorative and education programs
  • Defence support services

We have about 2,300 staff in offices across Australia, with approximately 700 staff located in Canberra. Career opportunities for graduates are wide ranging across all areas of the Department, with the possibility of some positions being offered in other capital city locations.
