Personal care

Personal Care under the VEA

Personal care assistance may be provided to eligible veterans and widows under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986. This includes assistance with daily self-care tasks that a person, because of illness, disability or frailty, is unable to do for themself.

Low level personal care services are available under the Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) program.  Usually two or three personal care visits per week (up to one-and-a-half hours per week) will meet low level care needs.

Those with long term higher level personal care needs (requiring more than one-and-a-half hours per week) should be referred to more appropriate programs of care such as the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) Community Nursing program.
