Operation CATALYST 10th anniversary (Vetaffairs Spring 2019)

This 31 July marked 10 years since the end of Operation CATALYST in Iraq.

CATALYST had begun six years earlier. Its purpose was to help stabilise Iraq following the end of major combat operations, as well as to assist with national recovery and the transition to self-government.

All three branches of the Australian Defence Force were involved. Their varied tasks included training some 33,000 volunteers for the new Iraqi army.

While the number of Australian personnel involved in operations was small in proportion to the overall coalition force, our highly-trained and well-equipped forces contributed significantly to the success of the mission.
