About the program

The Graduate Program is based in Canberra and is a structured 11-month development program designed to give you exposure to the broad range of important work DVA undertakes, whilst propelling you into a successful career within the Australian Public Service. Three work placements are offered to you over the year. These placements provide you with the opportunity to be placed in several business areas within DVA, such as the:

  • Secretary’s office
  • Client and Commemoration Division 
  • Rehabilitation and Support Division
  • Health and Community Services Division
  • Business Support Services Division
  • Transformation and Engagement Division
  • Legal Services and Assurance Branch
  • Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service

State location visit

You will be given the opportunity to travel interstate for one week to work in a state office. DVA’s state offices are located in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania. This insightful visit will allow you to see how DVA operates at the front line, and will provide you with exposure to the distinctive roles that each state office performs.

After the graduate program

Once you have successfully completed the Graduate Development Program, you will be offered an ongoing (permanent) position with DVA. If you would like to further develop in your career after the graduate year, you are welcome to apply for short-term opportunities and promotions into other positions within DVA, and at any of the state offices around Australia.
