Appendix D: Advertising and market research

In 2013–14, DVA undertook advertising and market research to assist in the development of policy and programmes, and to inform the public about services, entitlements and commemorative activities. DVA also placed tenders, public notices and recruitment advertisements.

In accordance with section 311A of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918, payments of less than $12,400 have not been included. Figures are inclusive of GST.

There were no payments to creative advertising agencies or polling organisations in 2013–14.

Market research organisations

Table D1 shows the market research agencies contracted by DVA and amounts paid in 2013–14.

Media advertising organisations

Central government advertising agencies place campaign and non-campaign advertising in media outlets.

Table D2 shows the amounts paid to each agency in 2013–14. Advertising for recruitment and tenders is included.

During 2013–14, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs conducted advertising campaigns on the following topics: Gallipoli 2015 ballot; mental health client literacy and the Defence Service Homes Insurance Scheme.

Direct mail organisations

Direct mail organisations handle the sorting and mailing of information to the public. The amount paid for these services relates to handling, sorting, packaging and related activities and does not include the cost of postage or producing distributed materials.
