Appendix D: Advertising and market research

In 2012–13, DVA undertook advertising and market research to assist in the development of policy and programs, and to inform the public about services, entitlements and commemorative activities. DVA also placed tenders, public notices and recruitment advertisements.

In accordance with section 311(a) of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918, payments of less than $11 900 have not been included. Figures are GST exclusive.

There were no payments to creative advertising agencies or polling organisations in 2012–13.

Market research organisations

Table D1 shows the market research agencies contracted by DVA and amounts paid in 2012–13.

Media advertising organisations

Central government advertising agencies place campaign and non-campaign advertising in media outlets. Table D2 shows the amounts paid to each agency in 2012–13. Advertising for recruitment and tenders is included.

During 2012–13, DVA conducted advertising campaigns on: mental health client literacy, Defence Service Homes Insurance Scheme, Office of Australian War Graves, and an information service for Anzac Day commemorations in Gallipoli and France.

Direct mail organisations

Direct mail organisations handle the sorting and mailing of information to the public. The amount paid for these services relates to handling, sorting, packaging and related activities and does not include the cost of postage or producing distributed materials. Table D3 shows the direct mail organisations contracted by DVA and amounts paid in 2012–13.
