An ABC 730 story, aired on Thursday 6 June 2013, contained a number of serious factual inaccuracies, most seriously the claim that a person does not have access to treatment while they are awaiting the resolution of a claim.

6 June 2013 – Australian War Memorial Council Members Announced

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, has welcomed Gabrielle Trainor as the newest member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial, while paying tribute to the contribution made by outgoing member Wendy Sharpe.

6 June - Reaching out to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and women

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has teamed up with the Canberra Raiders NRL Club to help spread the word about the services and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ex-Service men and women can access following their service.

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today launched the Indigenous Champion Project and said the initiative is a positive step to ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service personnel get the recognition they deserve.

29 May - Statement on Gallipoli 2015 figures

The article published in today’s The Australian newspaper by Cameron Stewart on Gallipoli crowd figures is misleading and inaccurate.

The article suggests the Dawn Service can accommodate more than 10,500 visitors at Anzac Cove, Turkey.

Mr Stewart has based this assertion on a website article from 2005 – which the author refused to verify when contacted by the media outlet.

27 May - Pathway to improve veteran mental health support

Mental health support for contemporary veterans and their families was boosted today with the release of the new Veteran Mental Heath Strategy and the inaugural meeting of the Veteran Mental Health Clinical Reference Group.

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, said supporting the mental health needs of all veterans, including those who have recently left the defence force, is a high priority for DVA.

Battle of the Atlantic, 70th anniversary commemorative visit to the UK - May 2013

Eight Australian veterans of the Battle of the Atlantic will travel to the UK later this month to attend commemorations to mark the 70th anniversary of what was the longest military campaign of the Second World War.
