19 November - Major grants to commemorate wartime service

Four projects honouring the service and sacrifice of Australia’s servicemen and women will receive more than $342,000 in funding under the Major Commemorative Grants category of the Saluting Their Service programme.

The contribution of Charles Edwin Woodrow (C.E.W) Bean, and of all the men and women who have reported on Australia’s experience of war, will be honoured with the construction of a new memorial to be located at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

1 November - Three Australian veterans to receive France's highest honour

Three Australian Second World War veterans will be presented with France’s highest honour, the Legion of Honour, at the Albany Convoy Commemorative Event being held in Albany, Western Australia.

24 October- Further funding approved for local grants program

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson, today announced that a further 231 grants totalling $1.96 million have been approved under the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program. This brings the total number of grants approved to 605 grants across 123 electorates, with $5.8 million being made available to date for communities to implement commemorative projects.

16 September - Experts discover Gallipoli battlefield clues

A team of eminent archaeologists, historians and researchers from Australia, New Zealand and Turkey have uncovered more than 14 kilometres of trench - much of it in the original frontline - leading to rare insights into the often forgotten struggles of those who fought on the Gallipoli Peninsula 100 years ago.  They have also found evidence of ancient Roman occupation.

Today marks the centenary of Australia’s first campaign of the First World War and remembers in particular the six men who fell in the brief but bitter encounter at Bita Paka in German New Guinea.

8 September - DVA has commenced the fourth data Study of Mortality & Cancer Incidence in F-111 Deseal/Reseal program Aircraft Maintenance Personnel

DVA has commenced the fourth in a series of studies on the mortality and cancer incidence of F-111 Aircraft Maintenance workers who were involved in the F-111 Deseal/Reseal (DSRS) programs during 1977-2000.

This study is expected to be completed mid 2015 and follows on from three previous studies completed in 2003, 2004 and 2009 as part of a broader Study into the Study of Health Outcomes of Aircraft Maintenance Personnel (SHOAMP).

21 August - Cutting red tape for veterans and their families

From 1 September 2014, current serving ADF members, including Reservists, will be able use their purple ADF ID Card to prove their identity for the purposes of making a DVA claim, reducing red tape in the claims application process.
