Review of DVA-funded ESO Advocacy and Welfare Services
The then Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, welcomed the release of the Review of Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)–Funded Ex-Service Organisation (ESO) Advocacy and Welfare Services Report on 14 February 2011.
The Review recommended important changes to help standardise ESO advocacy and welfare services and improve transparency and accountability in the way funds are distributed to the ex-service organisations that support Australia’s veteran and defence communities.
The Review covered the Building Excellence in Support and Training Program (BEST), Training Information Program (TIP), and the Veteran and Community Grants (V&C) program.
The links below provide information on earlier reports produced by the independent Review team and some additional background to the steps and ESO consultation that was undertaken as part of the Review.
As part of the Review, the Department consulted with Ex-service Organisations and other stakeholders at state capitals and regional centres across Australia during October and November 2009.
More than 130 submissions were received. So that all contributors to the Review were able to comment on the issues arising from the consultation phase, a summary of the emerging themes was made available for comment before the Review commenced its final stage.
